“So I sent messengers to them saying, “I am doing a great work so that I cannot come down. Why should the work cease while I leave it to go down to you?” Nehemiah 6:3

When Nehemiah was building the wall of Jerusalem, he faced a continual onslaught from his enemies to stop the work of rebuilding. One day, three of his adversaries tried to trick him into coming down off the wall to meet and talk of peace. It sounded good but was a diversion to get him down from the wall, stop the work of God, and eventually kill Nehemiah. But he had Godly discernment and said no! His focus was on doing what God told him to do and he would not be diverted, distracted or stopped. He was not coming down to talk to those who did not have his, or God’s interest at heart!

The devil will do anything to distract you and get your focus and attention on something rather than the purpose God has for you. It is crucial that you discern what is a devilish snare and that you stay focused and single-minded on the task at hand. The Holy Spirit will “guide you into all truth”, help you resist the distractions and see the deceptions of the enemy so you can give your all to the work God has for you to do… whatever that may be!

Your life is about a “great work” just as Nehemiah’s was… a specific plan and purpose of God to advance the Kingdom of God in the hearts and lives of people. Stay on the wall… keep your priorities… pray for strength, endurance and discernment. God is with you and will cause you to accomplish and achieve all those things He has put into your heart. So much is at stake and so much depends upon you continuing and finishing the work God has for you. Stay on the wall! You are doing a Great Work!
