God is Awesome

God is Awesome

“Let all the earth fear the Lord, let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him.” (Psalm 33:8)

I never want to lose my awe of God. I never want to get routine with Him or allow a casualness and irreverent approach to be the way I come to Him and worship Him. I always want to realize the greatness, majesty, wonder and magnificence of the One I worship! When we realize His awesomeness how can we worship Him in any other way?

He appeared to Moses in that burning bush that was not consumed and that ground became holy ground… holy ground because of the presence, power and majesty of a holy God!

In Isaiah’s vision of the Lord he saw the throne and the Lord high and lifted up. The train of the Lord’s robe filled the temple (imagine that). The Seraphim flew proclaiming “Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord of hosts, the whole earth is full of His glory”. The foundations of the Temple shook at His voice and the house was filled with smoke! Isaiah’s only response to this majestic scene was “I am undone! Woe is me!”

At the Transfiguration, Jesus’s face shined like the sun and His clothes turned so white as to be a light, to be radiant! Moses and Elijah appeared and the voice from the Father spoke, “This is my beloved son in whom I am well pleased, listen to Him”! Could you imagine seeing this?

1 Timothy 6:16 says that He dwells in unapproachable light whom no one has ever seen or can see! Brighter that a million suns! Amazing!

When God appeared on the mountaintop to meet with Moses, the Word says that the mountain was filled with thunders and lightening, clouds and fire, and great trumpet sounds that shook everything!

In Revelation 4, John saw the throne in Heaven and “One” seated on the throne that was covered in precious stones and a magnificent rainbow. Around the throne were twenty-four other thrones with twenty-four elders clothed in shining white garments with gold crowns on their heads. From the throne came lightning and rumblings and torches of fires in front a sea of glass, like crystal! And there were creatures saying day and night, “Holy Holy Holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come”! The twenty-four elders cast their crowns before the throne and cried out, “Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things and by your will they existed and were created”.

Now that’s an awesome God worthy of our best, our worship and our praise!
