Alone No More

I know our Lord is always with us. He said that He would never leave us or forsake us. (Hebrews 13:5) But there are those times when we need Him more than others. I believe the Lord is never closer or more intimately present than when we are in trouble, afraid or hurting. In those times, He understands how we feel and showers us with His love, compassion, grace and presence!

Paul was a man of another sort. He was a strong believer who carried out a special mission with dedication, devotion, tenacity and an absolute dependence and reliance upon His God. Paul showed us what is was to be a Christian in a myriad of circumstances, trials and difficult situations. But Paul was a man just like us. He was not a supernatural being, but just someone who had faith in the supernatural. He had weaknesses, fears and discouragements just like us. But our Lord was always there for Paul in those dark times with His presence and words of encouragement and strength.

When Paul was opposed in Corinth and was concerned about speaking the Word, God knew Paul needed encouragement and spoke in a night vision saying, “Do not be afraid but speak and do not be silent for I am with you and no one will attack you or hurt you…”(Acts 18:9-10) When Paul’s life was threatened and he thought that he might be killed and not able to fulfill God’s purpose for him, again, the Lord was there for Paul saying, “Be of good cheer Paul for as you testified of me in Jerusalem so you must also bear witness at Rome.” (Acts 23:11) And when Paul thought he would perish in a shipwreck our Lord once again spoke to Paul saying, “Do not be afraid Paul, you must be brought before Caesar and indeed God has granted you all those who sail with you”. And Paul confidently proclaimed, “…for I believe God that it will be just as it was told to me.” (Acts 27:24-25) and Paul was encouraged!

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1) Are you in a dark time, afraid of what might be, alone, overwhelmed and feeling lost? Jesus is with you in the depths of sorrow and is embracing you and speaking to you through His Word… and he will never let you go! Be encouraged by His presence and comforted by His Word… and be still… and know that he is God! As He was with Paul, He will be with you!
