“ Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying,…

“ Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send and who will go for Us?” Then I said, “Here am I, send me!” Isaiah 6:8

Isaiah had an amazing encounter with God in which he saw the magnificent glory of God on the throne. The Lord was exalted and the train of His robe filled the temple. What a sight that must have been! But, when God’s holiness met Isaiah’s sinfulness, he was undone. He proclaimed, “Woe is me!” Isaiah, like all of us have reason to be ashamed and convicted due to our sinfulness and turning away from God and His righteous ways.

But as we read in Isaiah, one of the seraphim, sent by God, touched his lips with a burning coal from the altar of God. And because of that act commissioned by God towards Isaiah, his iniquity was taken away and his sin forgiven. Because of the Father’s grace and love, Isaiah, like us, war purged from sin, cleansed and the guilt and shame of sin was removed.

So when the Triune God asked, “Whom shall I send and who will go for Us?”… Isaiah cried out, “Here I am, send me!” In essence, Isaiah was saying to the Lord that he was ready to be used of God, to say yes to a holy calling, to speak God’s Word with boldness and confidence. He was now ready to go and speak what the Lord would have him speak… whatever the difficulties, wherever the Lord would send him, whenever the Lord calls, no more self doubts, no more holding back… just a desire to serve the Lord who shook the foundations and whose glory fills the whole earth!

Can we cry out today, “Here am I, send me?” Are you willing? Have you encountered the holiness and beauty of the Lord? Do you realize as well that your sin was purged and cleansed and your shame and guilt removed? No more holding back… today, go where He sends you and share the good news of the Gospel. So much is at stake! He is with you!
